Jay McDaniel

Jay McDaniel is Chair of the Board of the Cobb Institute for Process and Community. He taught the world’s religions at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, for 39 years. He is the author or editor of more than fifteen books, including Living from the Center: Spirituality in an Age of Consumerism and Gandhi’s Hope: Learning from Other Religions. Jay also curates and edits the world’s largest website on the ideas and practice of process thought: Open Horizons (www.openhorizons.org) Working in mainland China as a leader of workshops on process thought, he is also a member of the Board of the Institute for the Postmodern Development of China. He works with Sophia Said with the Interfaith Center of Arkansas, in the context of which they have co-led many workshops using the spiritual alphabet of Spirituality and Practice. Married to Kathy McDaniel, he and his wife have two sons, Jason and Matthew, one living in San Diego and the other in Rhodes Island. A practicing musician, he leads singalong music at memory care halls in his area on a weekly basis, sings in a local band as well, and is a gardener-in-the-making, learning from Kathy. He is a member of a local Methodist Church and a lay-associate in a Benedictine monastery and thinks of himself as a Christian-influenced-by-Buddhism who believes there is wisdom in all the world’s religions and in people who have no affiliation with any religion.
