John Capon

John Capon started his career as a Bass Trombonist in Vancouver, BC in 1960.  He played many shows on CBC Radio and TV, most notably Jazz Radio Canada. He also played in the Vancouver Opera Orchestra. In 1967 Capon moved to Toronto and immediately joined the Canadian Opera and the National Ballet Orchestras. He also created the Toronto Gabrieli Brass and became a featured soloist with Phil Nimmons’ Jazz Big Band – Nimmons ‘n’ 9 + 6. (two Juno awards). In 1986, Capon moved with his wife artist Tawny Maclachlan, and their three children, Jesse, Aron, and Rachel to live on Gabriola Island.

Capon conducted the Malaspina Choir for 16 years and created the Gabriola Chamber Ensemble and the V.I.U. Summer Jazz Academy.

During the last 30 years, his playing has focused more on Jazz. He has produced three CDs as a solo Jazz artist.
